National Monsoon Mission

Context:

According to the report prepared by the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), the National Monsoon Mission and High-Performance Computing programmes will provide a 50-fold benefit on the funds allocated for farmers.

Key Highlights

• The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) launched the National Monsoon Mission in 2012. 

• Under the National Monsoon Mission, the active implementation of a Global Ensemble Forecast Method for short and medium-range forecasts at 12 kilometres was made possible.

• For short, medium, and long-range predictions, it seeks to establish a state-of-the-art, dynamic monsoon prediction method.
