E-Dharti Geo Portal

Context

The 'e-Dharti Geo Portal' has recently been launched by the Ministry of Union Housing and Urban Affairs and this portal will integrate map and lease plans in the Management Information System. The portal will also make the maps and lease plans geographic information system (GIS)-enabled.

Highlights

  • L&DO is integrating geographic information system (GIS) based mapping of individual properties with e-Dharti GeoPortal to make property details GIS enabled.

  • Around 60,000 commercial, residential, industrial and institutional properties are currently being dealt with by the land and development office (L&DO).

  • It issues a certificate of property to the property holder that includes details and the outline map of the property.

  • Now with the launch of the portal, the property certificate details and the outline map of the property can be easily accessed online on the portal.

  • A certificate is generally created during the purchase of a property.

  • The certificate will include property specifics such as type of land, type of property, allotment date, status of property, plot area, address of property, etc.

  • The portal will also help a buyer to learn whether any lawsuit is pending in respect of the property.

  • The Property Certificate will be available on a nominal fee of ₹1,000/- and it can be accessed by the public by visiting the L&DO website which is www.ldo.gov.in.

  • This move will benefit the general public, especially the elderly, besides it will also help in avoiding unnecessary litigations.

  •  Along with the public, this application will also benefit the Government in getting to know the actual status of its vacant properties and whether there is any encroachment on the said property.

  • The 'e-Dharti Geo Portal' covers almost 95% of total applications received by L&DO.

  •  L&DO has also taken a unique initiative to update the land records of freehold property.
