Recently, Droupadi Murmu (President of India) presented the Bharat Ratna Awards at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

This year, Bharat Ratna Awards were presented to the following posthumously.
(i) Sh. Chaudhary Charan Singh (Former Prime Minister of India)
(ii) Sh. P V Narasimha Rao (Former Prime Minister of India)
(iii) Sh. Karpoori Thakur (Former Chief Minister of Bihar)
(iv) Sh. M. S. Swaminathan (Eminent Scientist )
About Bharat Ratna
(i) It is the highest civilian award in the country.
(ii) It is awarded in recognition of exceptional service of the highest order in any field of human endeavour.
(iii) The recommendations for Bharat Ratna are made by the Prime Minister to the President of India.
(iv) No formal recommendations for Bharat Ratna are necessary.
(v) The Award does not carry any monetary grant.
