SCO Summit 2023

• India recently hosted Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in the virtual format. This is the first time India hosted the summit. In this Summit, SCO decided to induct Iran as its ninth member.
• SCO members agreed on the New Delhi Declaration which proposes five joint statements namely: fight against terrorism, de-radicalization, sustainable lifestyle to tackle climate change, production of millets and digital transformation.
• India once again refused to endorse China’s ambitious Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) scheme which envisions rebuilding the old Silk Road to connect China with Asia, Europe and beyond with large infrastructure spending.
