Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana was launched in 2017 and its nodal ministry is Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
Its aim is to provide a one-time cure opportunity to underprivileged Thalassemia patients who have a matched sibling donor but do not have the financial resources to cover the cost of the procedure.
It is supported by Coal India Limited (CIL) as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
Thalassemia is a chronic and genetic blood disorder due to which a patient’s body cannot make enough hemoglobin leading to anemia.
This disease is passed from parents to children through genes and people suffering from it require blood transfusions to survive.
