World Press Freedom Index
India has fallen eight places from 142 to 150 in the 2022 World Press Freedom Index of 180 countries.
The theme this year: Journalism under digital siege.
World Freedom Index: 2022
The Index has been released every year by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) since 2002.
RSF is an international non-profit organization governed by principles of democratic governance.
OBJECTIVE:
Its objective is to compare the level of press freedom enjoyed by journalists and media in 180 countries and territories.
Five new indicators have been inducted this year to compile the Index: the political context, legal framework, economic context, sociocultural context, and security.
This year NORWAY grabbed the top position while NORTH KOREA remained at the bottom of the list among 180 countries.
