First trial flight using GAGAN


  • Recently, the Airports Authority of India successfully conducted a trial through GAGAN- the latest indigenous satellite-based augmentation system.
  • IndiGo became the first airline in Asia that used the indigenously developed satellite-based navigation system while landing at the Kishangarh airport, Rajasthan.
  • GAGAN which is an acronym of GPS Aided GEO Augmented Navigation, is a Satellite-Based Augmentation System.
  • GAGAN has been jointly developed by the ISRO and the AAI.
  • The GAGAN Signal-In-Space is available via the GSAT-10 and GSAT-8 satellites.
  • This system provides corrections to the global positioning system signal to improve the management of air traffic.
