Why Did Russia Invade Ukraine?

• This angered Russia, which started sending troops near its Ukraine border.

• Russia has demanded that the West gives a legally binding guarantee that NATO will not hold any military activity in eastern Europe and Ukraine. 

What is NATO? 

• North Atlantic Treaty Organisation is a security alliance of 30 countries from North America and Europe.

• It was forrmed in 1949 with the signing of the Washington Treaty.

• NATO’s fundamental goal is to safeguard the Allies’ freedom and security by political and military means.

• An attack against one Ally is an attack against all — is at the core of the Alliance, a promise of collective defence.
