Why Did Russia Invade Ukraine?
Last year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged US President Joe Biden to let Ukraine join NATO.
This angered Russia, which started sending troops near its Ukraine border.
Russia has demanded that the West gives a legally binding guarantee that NATO will not hold any military activity in eastern Europe and Ukraine.
What is NATO?
North Atlantic Treaty Organisation is a security alliance of 30 countries from North America and Europe.
It was forrmed in 1949 with the signing of the Washington Treaty.
NATO’s fundamental goal is to safeguard the Allies’ freedom and security by political and military means.
An attack against one Ally is an attack against all — is at the core of the Alliance, a promise of collective defence.
