Mahaparinirvan Divas


  • Every year on 6th December, the death anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar is celebrated as Mahaparinirvan Diwas.
  • Parinirvana, which is regarded as one of the goals of Buddhism as well as a key doctrine, is a Sanskrit word meaning liberation or salvation after death. 

About BR Ambedkar

  • Born: April 14, 1891, in Mhow, Central Provinces (now Madhya Pradesh).

  • He was a social reformer, jurist, economist, writer, polyglot and scholar of comparative religious philosophy.

  • He converted to Buddhism in 1956.

  • He was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in the year 1990.
