Human Rights Day 


  • It is observed every year on 10 December — the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
  • 2021 theme relates to 'Equality' and Article 1 of the UDHR – “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights."

  • The United Nations defined Human rights as rights inherent to all human beings.

  • They are universal and are available regardless of any race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or another status.

  • Human rights range from right to life, right to food, right to education, right to health etc.

UN  Human Rights Council

  • It is an inter-governmental body within the United Nations system responsible for strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights

  • It meets at the UN Office in Geneva.
