Chile to draft New Constitution
• Chilean President Sebastian Pinera has announced the assembly to draft a new constitution, as the South American country moves towards replacing its current conservative, dictatorship-era charter.
• The Constitution will be re-written following a broad political consensus which was agreed to, after violent social protests of 2019 against inequality in Chile. A Referendum was held which got the favor of 78% of Chileans, on October 25, 2020.
• The Convention represents a great opportunity to achieve a new constitution and it will be recognized & respected by all Chileans under the framework of unity & stability toward future democracy.
• Convention will comprise 155 delegates who were elected in May 2021.
