Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana
• The Government of India announced that it will provide five kilograms of free food grains under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana. This is to continue till June 2021.
• Around eighty crore beneficiaries are being provided with free food grains (rice or wheat) at a scale of 5 kg per person per month.
About Scheme
• The scheme was launched in March 2020. It is operated by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
• Considered the world's largest food security scheme, the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana aims at ensuring sufficient food for the poor and needy during the coronavirus crisis.
• It was announced as part of the first relief package during the COVID-19 pandemic.
• Part of the scheme, the food needs to be provided to all the beneficiaries under the public distribution system (TPDS) for Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and priority household (PHH) ration cardholders.
• As per updates, the eligible beneficiaries will receive 5kg of foodgrains and 1 kg Gram per month.
