PiMo e-Bike
Context
An IIT Madras-Incubated start-up Pi Beam Electric has recently launched a sustainable electric two-wheeler, dubbed as PiMo. The utility e-bike has been developed for personal and commercial use.
Key Highlights
The bike was founded by an IIT Madras Alum Visakh Sasikumar.
PiMo has been priced at Rs. 30,000.
Pi Beam has set an aim of selling 10,000 vehicles by the end of financial year 2021-22.
100 customers have already pre-booked the e-bike.
It does not require licence or registration.
The battery can charge faster than a smartphone and comes with a range of 50 kmph on a single charge.
It features dual suspension at the rear and larger and ergonomically designed seats and it comes with a swing arm mechanism and dual shock absorbers.
The e-bike will offer green and easy mobility on Indian roads.
90% of the components of bikes such as crucial batteries and controllers were manufactured in India. Thus, it is among few EVs in the local market that follows the spirit of ‘Make in India’ spirit.
The e-bike stands between an electric bicycle and the entry-level electric scooter.
PiMo provided a higher travel range when compared to the electric bicycle category.
It also offers a Battery Swapping Technology, using Battery Swapping technology a drained battery can be exchanged with a fully charged battery at the designated locations.
