Australia’s National Anthem
The Australian Government recently announced certain changes to its National Anthem “Advance Australia Fair”.
The second line of the National Anthem has been changed from ‘For we are young and free’ to ‘For we are one and free.’
The Australian National Anthem, “Advance Australia Fair” was written in 1878. It became the official National Anthem of Australia only in 1984.
According to the critics, the words “for we are young and free” destroy the 50,000 years of history of Australia. The word young implies that the Australian history started only with Colonisation.
