COVID-19 vaccines in India

• India has started vaccinating its citizens from 16th January, 2021. 

• The two COVID-19 vaccines approved for emergency use by DGCI are COVAXIN and COVISHIELD. 

About COVAXIN: 

The COVAXIN is the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech and ICMR (Indian council of Medical Research). It is the first indigenous COVID-19 vaccine to be developed in the country. 

About COVISHIELD: 

The COVISHIELD vaccine has been developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca, the pharmaceutical company.
