Status of Leopard in India 2018 Report
The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change recently released the “Status of Leopard in India, 2018” report.
Key Findings:
• India has 12,852 leopards compared to 7,910 leopards in 2014. In the country, the leopard population has increased by 60%.
• The states that registered the highest estimates of leopards were Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
• Approximately 3,387 leopards have been found in the Western Ghats.
