E20 Fuel

• The Government of India recently launched E20 fuel to encourage renewable fuel, such as ethanol.

Key Points:

• This is being achieved as the Government of India is seeking to bring the ethanol industry to 2 lakh crores of ropes in the next 5 years. At present, India's ethanol industry is at twenty-two thousand crores of ropes.

• E20 means that 20% of ethanol is mixed with petrol. At present, the allowable degree of blending is 10% of ethanol in India.

• E20 lowers automotive pollution by reducing emissions of hydrocarbons and carbon dioxide.
