Himalayan Serow
Context:
- The Himalayan Serow was seen for the first time in the harsh desert of the Himalayas. The Himalayan Serow was recently considered to be extinct.

It is an exceptionally shy species that can only be seen during the winter as it migrates to lower elevations.

It is a medium-sized animal with a thick body, a large head, small arms, mules like ears and a coat of dark fur.
Conservation status:

The International Union for Conservation of Nature had listed the Himalayan Serows as ‘Near Threatened’. The IUCN has now changed their status to ’vulnerable’.

It has been listed under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Also, it has been included in CITES Appendix I.
