G7 Summit 2021

Context:

Prime Minister Modi was recently invited by his British counterpart, Boris Johnson, to attend the G7 summit in the United Kingdom, to be held in 2021.

• India is one of the three guest nations besides South Korea and Australia.

• Following its extension to cover 10 democracies, the grouping is expected to become a D10.

D10 Group of Countries:

• The D10 Group of Countries has been suggested by the United Kingdom, by adding the G7 nations, India, Australia and South Korea.

• D10 accounts for the ten greatest democracies in the world. 

• D10 is being developed to create alternative providers of 5G equipment and other technology, avoiding dependency on China.
