Green Ammonia
Context:
The Government of India has recently invited tenders for Green Ammonia Schemes to reduce the country's reliance on imports.
About Green Ammonia:
Green ammonia refers to ammonia produced by a process that is 100% sustainable and carbon-free.
One way to make Green Ammonia is by using hydrogen from the electrolysis of water and nitrogen isolated from the air. These two elements are then integrated into the Haber process. In the process, nitrogen and hydrogen react together at high pressure and temperature to create ammonia.
Note:
Currently, ammonia making is not a green process. It is now made from methane. It is called the Steam Methane Reforming (SMR) process.
