● Designed in 1963, the Arecibo Telescope in Puerto Rico was built in 1963. It is the second-largest single-dish radio telescope in the world. It's been in the headlines lately because of its failure.

●  It is owned by the National Science Foundation of the United States. It is understood that Mercury rotates in 59 days, not 88 days (original calculation).

About Arecibo Telescope:

●  The Arecibo Telescope has one of the most powerful radars used to observe asteroids, planets and the ionosphere.

● The first exoplanets, prebiotic compounds in distant galaxies, and the first millisecond pulsar have been detected by the telescope. Prebiotic molecules are objects that contribute to the origin of life.

●The Telescope has acted as a centre for the search for extraterrestrial life and has obtained a variety of radio signals from alien civilizations.
