SSC JE is an exam conducted by Staff Selection Commission (SSC). This exam is meant for the recruitment of Junior Engineers (JEs) in various branches of Engineering including Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Quantity Surveying & Contracts. The purpose of this exam is to recruit candidates for Group-B (non-gazetted) posts in level-6 (Rs 35,400-1,12,400) of pay matrix of the seventh Central Pay Commission.

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has prescribed detailed eligibility criteria for SSC JE exam. All candidates appearing for SSC JE exam are advised to be aware of the SSC JE eligibility criteria 2020 carefully. Application of any candidate found not complying with the eligibility criteria for the exam at a later stage will be rejected. The SSC JE paper-I 2020 will be conducted from March 30 to April 2.

Nationality/Citizenship

A candidate must be either:

  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or
  • A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  • A person of Indian origin migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently setting in India

SSC JE exam consists of two papers, papers - I and -II. SSC JE paper-I is an objective type test which is held in online mode. SSC JE paper-II is a subjective type test which is conducted in offline mode. Paper-I has 200 marks weightage and paper-II carries a weightage of 300 marks.

SSC JE syllabus 2020 consists of paper- and subject-wise topics from which questions are eventually asked in the exam. The table given below is the detailed SSC JE syllabus for paper-I and -II.

Paper-1: Syllabus

1. General Intelligence & Reasoning

The Syllabus for General Intelligence includes questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. The syllabus shall include questions on analogies, similarities, differences, space visualization, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, etc. The test may also include questions designed to test the candidate's abilities to deal with abstract ideas and symbols and their relationships, arithmetical computations and other analytical functions.

2. General Awareness

Questions are aimed at testing the candidate's general awareness of the events around him/ her and its application to the wider domain of society. Questions will be so designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. The test may also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity and Scientific Research, etc. These questions will be such that they do not require a special study of any discipline.

Candidates must have passed diploma/degree in Engineering in order to apply for the SSC JE exam

The application fee for SSC JE exam is Rs 100. Nevertheless, the fee is not applicable for females of all categories and candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD/ExS.

Generally SSC JE PAPER 1 admits card is released few days before the exam date. As the exam is tentatively scheduled in the month of February 2021, hence the admit card will be available in the month of January 2021.

SSC JE examination is conducted for the posts belonging to Group ‘B’ in the technical category.

Candidates can apply for SSC JE EXAM by visiting the official website of SSC i.e www.ssc.nic.in after the release of the official notification of SSC JE EXAM 2020.

Candidates who posses Diploma OR Degree in engineering or are eligible for SSC JE exams

Candidates who have passed diploma/ degree in Civil, Mechanical & Electrical are eligible to apply for the SSC JE EXAM.
