Kumar Shanker Appointed Managing Director of Indraprastha Gas Limited 

Kumar Shanker takes charge as MD of Indraprastha Gas Limited.

Indraprastha Gas Limited is known as one of the city's largest gas distribution companies. Kumar Shanker MD of IGL, has been replaced by Kamal Kishore Chatiwal, who completed his three-year tenure at IGL and now has returned to GAIL (India) Limited.

Kumar Shanker: Experience and Career Highlights 

Kumar Shanker MD of IGL, is a chemical engineering graduate from BITS Pilani. He has 31 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. During his long association with GAIL (India) Limited, he worked across various locations, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and New Delhi. He has been part of the multiple aspects of the natural gas business, ranging from operations and project management to policy and regulatory affairs.

Before Kumar Shanker appointment as Indraprastha Gas Limited Managing Director, he served as the Managing Director at Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL), Pune. Kumar Shanker's work at MNGL includes issues related to authorization of gas distribution networks, open access regulations, pipeline tariff mechanisms, and compliance frameworks. 

The IGL new managing director also had experience in various other fields, such as commissioning and operations of gas processing plants, management of petrochemical projects, corporate strategy and planning, marketing functions, regulatory affairs and policy development, city gas distribution operations, and natural gas infrastructure management. 

Kumar Shanker MD of IGL, has been widely known for his expertise in regulatory and policy development matters. He has contributed to the following matters: pipeline tariff mechanisms, natural gas authorizations, and gas transformation reforms. 

Kumar Shanker MD of IGL, has worked with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, NITI Aayog, and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board on various key initiatives. 

Under the Kumar Shanker leadership role, he implemented a unified tariff framework for the natural gas grid of India. This reform has improved India’s access to natural gas.
