External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar represented India at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan.

  • The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is a permanent intergovernmental organization founded in 2001 with six members. 
  • Aim: To enhance regional cooperation to combat terrorism, separatism, and extremism in the Central ASIAN region. 
  • Current SCO Members: China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Iran. 
  • Headquarter: Beijing, China (Secretariat)
  • Official languages:Russian and Chinese.
  • Observer status: Afghanistan and Mongolia.
  • Guest Attendees: Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Turkmenistan and United Nations (UN)
  • Belarus joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), becoming its 10th member state.
