• India recently won the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship 2023 held in Bengaluru, Karnataka, securing their ninth title by defeating Kuwait in a thrilling football match.
• Ranked 100th in the latest FIFA rankings, India triumphed in their ninth SAFF Championship out of 14 editions.
• Kuwait and Lebanon were invited as guest teams with a view to increase the number of teams for the championship and make the event more competitive.
• SAFF was formed in 1993 and has seven members namely Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
